Already two months in autumnal Denmark :))
Hej guys,
I hope you’re doing well and enjoying this season as much as I do! Let me tell you a little bit about the past weeks :)
The first thing that happened since our last blogs went up, is also the best: Lily recovered from her illness, we were back on track as an unbeatable team together with Guna and Elisabeth for the Autumn Holiday: a week full of hygge, delicious food made by Nanna and of course our creative workshops. It was so fun to help and watch the kids create artsy t-shirts, tote bags and tablet cases🍂🎨! Furthermore there was an amazing family concert and we had our first Fredagshyggebar, which made the week unforgettable. Besides, I went to the knights tournament in the medieval center, because some volunteers from there invited us. I tried medieval food, watched the tournament and the fireworks, which were great🎇
We also together with Mette went to SIRI in Copenhagen and to the Borgerservice here in Nykøbing and finally got our CPR number, the yellow healthcard, mItID and much more. So now we are basically Danish citizens (as a matter of fact we also got to vote on the 18th of November)!
The daily work at Kulturfabrikken with cafeshifts, meetings, workshops and practical tasks by the way didn’t get any less cozy and nice. I always enjoy being at this lovely place and having fun with our colleagues (we for example baked some amazing food together with Nanna for the cafe and Nanna told me how to knit!)💝
Apart from the work, we had some pretty nice things happening on the weekends. From the 24th to the 27th of October, Emil, Lily’s boyfriend, visited us and we really had a great weekend. We cooked together, played games, went to Copenhagen and climbed together with our friends August and Jonas. And a week later, we had the big concert on Halloween of PEDE B!! It was such a cool evening, Lily and I helped preparing the backstage, helped behind the bar and cleaned up everything afterwards. The concert hall was vibrant and buzzing and it was amazing to see so much life in Kulturfabrikken🎉. The day after, Solly, our South-Korean friend who also works as a volunteer here in Nykøbing, came to our apartment and we cooked some South-Korean food together which was so delicious. And then the 6th of November came and with that: our first ever Designstuen! Lily, Elisabeth, Guna and I created a workshop where everything is about upcycling, designing and being creative with clothes, fabrics and other materials. A lot of the skaters came and it was amazing to see how they decorated their helmets and t-shirts. With Nanna’s hot coco it couldn’t get any less cozier🥰
Eventually there was our on arrival training in Ollerup from the 10th to 13th of November. Trains and buses brought us through a sea of red and yellow trees all the way to Ollerup on the island Fyn. How the training went was beyond my expectations, it was something I didn’t know I needed, but it was actually so so great to be there, meet all those people from different countries and learn about culture, volunteering and also about yourself. Our trainers Anja, Kit and Lene were very nice and some of the exercises really helped me to understand certain things better. The best part was of course hanging out with all those lovely people and we will certainly visit some of them again😍
When we were back home again, Laurenz, a friend of Lily, was visiting us during the weekend and we were having a cozy time together :). We also helped at the Jupiter kvartetten family concert, which was very cute. And I went to the AFS Julehygge event, a really cozy get-together with other youngsters from abroad. We talked about our different Christmas traditions, ate some rice pudding, decorated the Christmas tree, played the raffle game and danced around the Christmas tree while we were singing Danish Christmas songs. Overall I feel that the Danes are now really in the Christmas mood with all the decorations in the streets and on the houses. It gives the city a warm, sparkling and homy light when I walk through the streets in the evening and I must say, I absolutely love that✨❤️🎄
There are some great things planned for the end of November and for the beginning of December, so I am looking forward to everything that is coming and will certainly write about it in my next blog!
Until then, have a nice weekend and vi ses,
Hanna
