Blog #11 Farvel Falster
Hej everyone,
It's hard to believe but the time has come to say goodbye...
I got to experience so much in this past year and you got to read all about it in my blogs. But before we get to the sentimental ending, let me first tell you what happend in my last few weeks on Falster.
The 29th of July was my birthday. To celebrate Emil came to visit me for a few days. Hanna had prepared the cutest birthday table for me and even baked some German Brezeln! I was working in the cafe that day and Nanna and Rasmus were so sweet to stop by with delicious cake and a beautiful top Nanna had knitted for me :) Later me and Emil went out to eat vegetarian sushi for dinner which was amazing and then got to see the new spider movie in the cinema since it came out on my birthday. It was so great although I will never get over how expensive it is to go to the cinema in Denmark. The day after I had invited all my friends for a picknick by the sea. At first it was sunny and very hot so we jumped in the sea and played volleyball on the grass. Then slowly but surely the rain started and later turned into a full storm. So we went home took a shower and ended the evening just sitting in a bar and talking… just as cozy! All in all I was so grateful for everyone who celebrated me. The next week it was time for one last Open Summer workshop. I was working together with Susanne making some magical things out of nature materials. Emil had to go back home but I wasn’t alone for long because my friend Teresa arrived just two days later. I got to show her around and she participated in our nice workshop outside. On Friday that week my other friend Linn joined us and she and Teresa both were there for Hannas Open Mic in the evening. Our climbing friends came and we had so much fun later turning the event into karaoke. Teresa had to leave again but Linn stayed for the weekend and we went to a event at Markedshallen with Louie. We got to listen to some live danish rap which was super cool!
Then there was another visitor (yet again… Mette actually made me count: it was 13 different people visiting me all in all). My brother arrived Sunday evening so Monday I got to spent with him and Linn together. We prepared pasta salad and went to a BBQ at my friends place we had planned. Another great cozy evening soaking up danish summer time. The next day Linn left so I spent the rest of the week with my brother. Since he had already visited me in the winter he knew his way around and he had already become friends with Louie so it was nice that they also got to see each other again. While I was working in the Swap Shop or in the Cafe they sat outside drawing in their sketchbooks or talking about music which was very cute. We got even more music in the weekend when we all wen to Næverland Festival in Næstved together. That was amazing! We saw Mikkel and many other talented artists perform and the stages and everything around the festival was designed so cool. There was also a lot of great graffiti and art to see and we met many sweet people. I was so inspired by everything around me those days and knowing that I leave soon made me enjoy it even more.
Once Till left it was time for the first workshops after the summer holidays. I was nice to have the same people from last season come back but also see some new faces. Working creatively with the kids was one of my favourite parts about my work at Kulturfabrikken so of course I also enjoyed the last days of that. And there was another filled weekend ahead of me. From Thursday to Saturday we had the Lille Fede Festeuge right infant of our apartment. There were concerts every night and the city square was packed with people. We went to see a great DJ with our friends on Thursday. On Friday we had another party to attend. Our friend Jonas was doing a goodbye get together before leaving for Japan. It was a great evening again. I was so excited for Saturday because me and Hanna got tattoos. I got a little bike on my ankle. I love it so much! I had planned to get a tattoo for a while but getting it in Denmark makes it even more special. Afterwards in the evening we again went to see some more concerts at the stage downstairs. We danced around, it was lovely. On Sunday we prepared and cooked because we made a three course dinner for Nanna. It had been our birthday gift to her. We made little feta pastries, spinach gnocchi and mousse au chocolat. We always have the most hyggeligt time with Nanna.
I couldn’t really believe it but then suddenly began my last week in Denmark. My parents came to visit and help me bring back all of my things. I was packing, cleaning and sorting out all the time. At work we had our last time meeting and our final evaluation. Even though everyone was all of a
Sudden talking about us leaving I couldn’t quite realise it yet. On Thursday we had the sweetest goodbye dinner with all of our colleagues. They had prepared a video with foto from the past year and Mette gave us such a heartwarming speech. The food was also amazing and the whole evening was a great. I hugged everyone extra tightly! On Friday we then hosted a Farvel Hyggebar for all of our danish friends we met while climbing, at workshops or anywhere else. So many of them came and some even brought little gifts. I was so happy :) Louie was the DJ for the night and he did a very good job. It was so fun to see everyone for one last time before leaving. Hanna and I had also gathered some of our favourite videos and fotos of the year and I made a little movie out of them we showed at the bar. We ended the night going to the city with some friends.
After that our last weekend in Denmark was spent packing and deep cleaning the whole apartment. Hanna and I both couldn’t figure out how we needed up with so much more stuff than we came with a year ago. It was truly a struggle but we managed to get everything done by Sunday night. And then on Monday we went how. Just like that a year volunteering is over. But it was so much more than that. Like you have probably already read in my previous blogs the past year was full of seeing new things, meeting new people, learning new skills and finding new ways. I am beyond grateful that I got this opportunity and especially for all the people who shaped it in such good ways. You can be absolutely sure that Denmark will see me again!
Thank you to all my colleagues, my roommate, my friends and all of you<3
Det var et rigtig fedt år!
